Ohio residents were crazy for sports betting in 2023.
Ohio sports betting totaled more than $7.6 billion in handle during its first year of operation, with online sports betting accounting for 97% of total bets placed in the Buckeye State.
To close out the year, the Ohio Casino Control Commission reported more than $829.9 million in sports betting handle for December 2023, its third highest monthly handle total for the entirety of 2023.

DraftKings, FanDuel Dominating Ohio
After the first full year of Ohio sports betting it’s clear that the market is being dominated by FanDuel and DraftKings. According to the Ohio Casino Control Commission, FanDuel has accounted for 43% of the total operator revenue in Ohio while DraftKings has accounted for 30%.
The next closest operators? BetMGM has accounted for 8% of the total operator revenue in Ohio and Bet365 has accounted for 7%.

Ohio’s four land-based casinos set new revenue records in 2023, as the casino control commission reported a total of $1.015 in casino gaming revenues.

FanDuel and DraftKings again dominated the month, as FanDuel reported $289 million in online sports betting hand and DraftKings reported $250.2 million. ESPN BET continued its strong run in the state, holding onto the third-spot in the market with $72.8 million in handle.
ESPN BET continued to spend as well, notching $11.3 million in promos, the highest operator spend yet again in Ohio.
