Cowboys Sick After 49ers Loss
Coming off a 42-10 drubbing at San Francisco, the Cowboys aren’t feeling well. Several players were battling illness this week. The worst off of the bunch is backup G/T Chuma Edge. He’s showing in the injury report as questionable.
Not only did the setback to the Niners humble the Dallas defense, it hurt that Cowboys on that side of the ball. Both LB Vander Esch and safety CJ Goodwin (pectoral) are out this week due to injuries sustained in that game. TE Peyton Hendershot (ankle), hurt in practice last week, has been placed on IR.

Ekeler’s Return Boosting Chargers
In Week 1, the Chargers were good for 233 yards rushing with Ekeler in the backfield. They haven’t come close to that number without him and twice were held below 100 yards gained on the ground.

Like Ekeler, Chargers QB Justin Herbert (finger) had his injury designation removed from earlier in the week. WR Joshua Palmer (groin) was a late-week addition to the injury report. He’s listed as questionable. TE Donald Parham Jr (wrist) was a full practice participant on Saturday.
On defense, starting LB Joey Bosa (toe) and DE Nick Williams (back) were limited in practice on Saturday.

How Could Injuries Affect Cowboys vs Chargers Betting Lines?
Certainly, Ekeler’s return to action is a boost for an already explosive Chargers offense. He produced 1,637 all-purpose yards and 18 TDs last season. Minus Williams, and with both Palmer and Guyton ailing, look for an uptick in production from rookie WR Quentin Johnston in the Cowboys vs Chargers player props.
There are depth issues in the LA defensive backfield. Both safety Alohi Gilman (heel) and CB Deane Leonard (hamstring) did not practice on Saturday. They’re listed as doubtful to play Monday. Safety JT Woods (illness) is out.
Cowboys are signing LB Tyrus Wheat to 53-man roster, person familiar with move said. Rookie to make NFL debut tonight vs. Chargers. CB Nahshon Wright (ankle) to make season debut, being activated from injured reserve.
LB Leighton Vander Esch and CB C.J. Goodwin to IR.

Backup safety Juanyeh Thomas (hamstring) is doubtful for Dallas. The Cowboys are already without All-Pro CB Trevon Diggs (ACL). Damone Clark will start for Vander Esch at WLB. CB Nahshon Wright (ankle) is being activated from IR and will make his season debut.
